Drawings for people I don't know

A couple years ago I got the idea to make drawings for people I don't know. Eventually I actually did it. This is only my second one. I'd like to make these more often than annually, but we'll see what happens. The last one I did was for trumpeter Ben Neill.

This one is for Eef Barzelay, Clem Snide frontman and solo artist. Funny story: Down in Champaign, IL round abouts 2000ish I went to a Beauty Shop show at the High Dive—well, The Beauty Shop was opening up for Clem Snide. And after the Beauty Shop finished, here was this skinny dude in a tuxedo singing about getting naked in the backyard trying to look more exotic—and I thought what the hell is this weirdness. I left after a few songs!
A couple months later I bought the Moment in the Sun EP, probably because it was green and cheap—not putting together that this was the same band I heard just a couple months prior. I ended up listening to those five songs about 4 million times in the next few weeks. I've picked up a few more albums since and listen to them regularly—as I tend to be in the mood for apocalyptic humor. That first show is still the only time I've seen them live! After a couple years off, Clem Snide is back touring again with a new album—definitely worth checking out. Eef Barzelay has put out solo albums as well, this drawing comes from the sentiment on Lose Big.

I think it's pretty interesting that his music could become such a big part of my life when I was extremely repelled by it initially. It goes to show how close love and hate are.
