Buffalo week Inktober

Last week was more of a crayon week for me than an ink one, but I managed to draw some buffalos. These are all riffs on my Slepnir as buffalo idea. The Norse god Odin rode an eight-legged horse named Slepnir which has made for some pretty interesting and biologically unsound images over the centuries—here are further contributions…

The first image is Norse American: Slepnir.

The second of these is Norse American: Slepnir Buffalo.

The third is Norse American Buffalo.

I made a trip out to Yosemite at the beginning of summer for my cousin's wedding. The lodge I stayed in had some interesting prints of buffalo and with a little research I figured out they were by George Catlin. So the last of these drawings is inspired by Catlin's Wounded Buffalo Bull No. 16 and is called Wounded Buffalo Slepnir No. 4.
