Flattop: Necks, Nuts, and Wood

Taylor does some pretty different and smart things with their acoustic guitar necks. Looking further into what they do prompted me to reconsider moving the neck on this bass.

He was attempting to illustrate that you didn't need a hollow body or acoustic projection to make a good guitar—specifically if you were planning to amplify it. I came across this in an image search. I was trying to find a visual reference for my plan—to replace the center of the soundboard with mahogany. This plan was really just attempting to patch the original sound hole, making way for F-holes and had little to do with aesthetics or sound.

Here he is talking about his early adventures. The intro is silent, but you can fast-forward through that:

If a guitarrĂ³n and an electric bass were to have children,
The acoustic bass guitar would be the likely offspring.
