Part lack of focus, part need to shake it up—I've been really sketching/doodling this last week. I've been sitting down to draw with something in mind a lot lately. Typically I try to sit down and not think—just draw. So I've been sitting down with nothing in mind this week. By posting my sketchbook like this, I can get hung up on making pretty drawings instead of sketching.
So here is a real visual digression. Being a turn-of-the-century-Champaign-bass player I would think of the bridge of a song being an indie rock digression—really more of a tangent than a progression of the song. This would be the visual form of that idea.
An old man was stepping on to his bike in the city as I got on the train and I thought it was a really beautiful moment. There was something very simple and classic about it. So I sat down with that in mind and then started working off the lines and shapes.
