Through all my research and thinking on this project I finally arrived at how exactly I want to do this earlier in the week. In an effort to see if anybody has done something similar I discovered the Kay hollowbody basses of the 1950s. As it turns out, my solution is almost identical to theirs! So, nothing new here.
—Went out to Owl Hardwood in Des Plaines today… The flattop will have and ebony sapwood and wenge tailpiece, a Honduran rosewood nut, walnut back, and figured maple top. (oh and probably an oak and mahogany bridge).
Howlin' Wolf's bass player, Andrew "Blueblood" McMahon played a Kay hollowbody bass. Trying to find more info on him and there isn't too much out there—couldn't even find one of his solo records at Jazz Record Mart! After playing bass with Wolf he went on with a solo career as a frontman.
